Introducing Kindleworth’s Newly Promoted Partners

In the final part of our series highlighting the journeys of three longtime Kindleworth team members recently promoted to partnership, we share Laura’s story.

Meet Laura Kolankiewicz – Partner, Kindleworth

My career journey: From early inspiration to shaping people strategy

I found my way into HR thanks to my father, an employment lawyer whose clients were often HR professionals. He had talked about the important role HR could play in a business and it was something I was keen to explore. After some very interesting work experience across different sectors, I decided to pursue this within the legal sector, and I was delighted to secure my first role in an international law firm after graduating.

From there, I moved across several different legal environments, specialising in HR business partnering. I enjoyed the experiences I had, but ultimately wanted to move into a role where I could again have exposure to all aspects of the HR function. That’s what initially drew me to Kindleworth – a unique opportunity to work with a variety of law firm clients across every area of HR from build and launch phases through to day-to-day management and strategic advice.

Now, six years on, it hasn’t disappointed. I love being part of a business that delivers something distinctive in the market, where I am a trusted advisor to multiple clients, shaping their people strategy and playing a part in the growth of their businesses too. Kindleworth is a fantastic place to work – hardworking, but with a supportive and collegiate environment. The partners are inspiring and brilliant practitioners who set the culture we all value. The chance to build on these foundations and now play a part in shaping the future strategy of a business I believe in is what excites me most about becoming a partner.

Leading with collaboration and adaptability

My leadership style is all about collaboration. I thrive on open discussions, bouncing around ideas, and making sure we’re always moving in the right direction together.
At the same time, adaptability is key. Working with clients means understanding their goals and challenges, and finding solutions that genuinely work for them – not just giving a yes or no answer. It’s about thoughtful conversations that lead to practical, people-focused strategies.

Key advice to clients

The best leaders understand that building a culture starts with identifying the values they want to stand for. My advice is to make sure the people strategy, including processes, policies and benefits are built to align with these values.
The firms that succeed are those that listen to their people, adapt and evolve as they grow, and foster an environment where everyone feels valued and supported  – something their employees will clearly recognise and appreciate.

Opportunities and challenges: Embracing AI and globalisation

AI is undoubtedly both a challenge and an opportunity for many industries, and the legal sector is no exception. The key will be understanding how AI can enhance our clients’ effectiveness while ensuring it doesn’t replace the natural creativity that’s essential in a lawyer’s work. We’re in a strong position to navigate this, thanks to a deep understanding of our clients’ needs, paired with the expertise of our tech team to stay ahead of AI developments. We’re focused on using AI to complement human talent, not replace it.
Another exciting opportunity is the increasing globalisation of businesses, supported by technological advances. Our clients are connecting with talented professionals from around the world more easily than ever before, all while reducing the need for travel and lowering their carbon footprint. The only challenge here might be the lack of face-to-face interaction, but we’re already finding ways to make remote collaboration as effective as possible.

Life beyond work: Balancing family, fitness and the outdoors

I am a mum to three young children so life is busy but fun. We live in the countryside so at weekends, we are often outdoors enjoying the great British weather. I am also a keen runner, and before having children, I completed the London Marathon. While another marathon is not really on the cards now, I still enjoy running when I can, sometimes with a few little people in tow too.
